Erik avoided the surgery! They were able to treat the infection with antibiotics and packing the inside of his skin without having to open him up and wash and clean it out that way. So this is good. The swelling has gone down considerably on the infection site, too.
When I said avoiding a surgery, that meant for the infection. Erik is still due for another surgery Jan 11 and maybe sooner like Jan 4th. This next one is the plan to remove a little more cancer in the jaw bone to get clean margins.
Erik is a trooper through all this. A little frustrated at times... but generally he's has a great attitude about everything.
