Erik is doing well. Today was quite eventful for him and for this Gray fam. Dr. Bentz and staff did what they could to help him. What an impressive doctor. In fact everyone here at Huntsman Cancer Hospital are so....well, gracious and caring. It's like having your best nurse and favorite doctor and cloning them. Everyone is like that. We had heard that about Huntsman and we are experiencing it now.
His surgery began at 10:30am and lasted until 4pm or so. Dr. Bentz removed lymph nodes on the left side, removed cartilage on his larynx, removed soft tissue around the tumor site, which was midline on his larynx. So no trachea. yeah. They helped fix his other scars, too... so they will be less visible.
When Erik was coming to... we didn't get to be in there with him and so he told us later about it that he just had to say something, anything random at the first and said oh, good- my voice works! He was a little worried about that still even though the doc said they wouldn't be so invasive to mess with it. I'm sure he was so relieved to hear himself talk. (We were too!) We missed any entertainment that a patient coming off of anethesia gives.... but we got to see him later on and he told us that he told the "updog joke". It sounds like the nurses had a fun time with him.
We are full of gratitude and feel so very blessed. Everything went so smoothly today and we both felt a peace and an unexplainable comfort through the day. Heavenly Father knows each one of us and our needs, that's for certain.
Glad to hear that it went well!!!
