I am so grateful there is a God. And I know that he watches over us daily. He constantly sends us earthly angels to be our support. His son, Jesus Christ, has already been there in the Garden of Gethsemene. Not only did he atone for our mistakes there but has felt loneliness and sorrow and pain. He knows how we feel. If we turn our hearts to Him, we will be comforted.
Erik had his appointment and treatment yesterday. Dr. Haslem is a kind wise friend who wants the best for Erik... and for all who have cancer. I love that there are continuing breakthroughs and that Dr. Haslem and colleagues keep pushing forward for them. The genomics testing came back with negative answers. With Erik's cancer, they didn't find what they wanted (the break in the mutation process to disrupt it) but want to try again with maybe a better cancer sample.
The pleurodesis surgery symptoms are much better. Erik is feeling better. He still has shortness of breath at times and a dry cough and crackles. Thinking it was more fluid building up, we scheduled a thorancentesis (drain the lung) thinking it was the other lung. There was a little fluid on both lungs but not enough to drain. In a good way, the surgery 2 weeks ago worked. So we went home. The doctor mentioned its still healing and it's overworked. Erik has oxygen at home when he needs it. It's on it's minimum setting and he is ok with it there. It helps him.
At Erik's appointment, the doctor prescribed him Fentanyl pain patches. Awesome. Erik slept great through the night and didn't hurt when he woke up. Bam! So good! It's hard for me as a mom to see him hurting...... so I am happy about these patches! Yay! Erik also had another immunotherapy treatment and his xgeva shot. Next appointment is in 3 weeks and a PET scan to see where things are at.
It is nice to have so much support and love being poured out upon our family and to Erik. It buoys Erik up to have visitors and notes and texts and things in the mail. Thank you to everyone! It was a nice surprise to have a friend drop off dinner yesterday out of the blue. She also brought me a ton of distilled water. I had posted a funny story on Instagram how I didn't want to go into town and buy some... so I got on YouTube and found out how to do it myself. It is a process. I have decided that it's soooo much easier to buy. haha AND it's only $.89 a gallon. hahaha... That was my point. Why didn't I just make a trip or simply call a neighbor? Anywho... she has made sure I will not run out for months!
Dennis' sister and son came to visit and brought her cheer and energy. It was a good visit. Tim & Brooke and Chris & Allie and all their littles came out to say hi and visit. Good thing for fall break and travelers! Barbie and Brandon were on their way to So. Cal. Also...Erik is excited to have his USU friends visit Cedar City for their fall break for adventures and visits this long weekend.
When I saw this....
I was immediately reminded of Erik. He is a wonderful example of strength and courage!!!
This is from his blog awhile back... He is awesome!
