Biopsy

Boo hah.

Another bump in the road.  Tuesday, Erik had his followup appointment up at Huntsman.  The small beebee size lump Erik has had near his adam's apple has grown a little more for them to do a needle biopsy. Instead of being sent to the 3rd floor for testing.... the crew rolled in their fancy equipment and proceeded to do the biopsy right then and there in the clinic room.  Cool.  I didn't watch much.  Dennis did.  I am a whimp when it comes to needles.  I did pretty good though.  I kept myself from getting light headed and having to leave the room.  Erik is awesome.... he was the one being poked, several times.  And I'm complaining about me watching.  haha  They could tell, somewhat, on Tuesday and Dr. Hunt mentioned it looked suspicious but to wait for the official report in a few days.  And yep, an outpatient surgery is scheduled for Novemeber 13th.  The pathology results report 'suspicious of the known cancer.  Reoccurrence.'  A CT scan is also set up before the surgery, so any other findings can be dealt with.

Erik continues to be amazing.  I was in a rebellious mood the past few days.  Sleepless nights don't help.  Even though I had cut way back on drinking diet coke, I found myself buying a 12pack!  haha  Erik said he was mad at first, too, then said, "mom, it will be ok."

Some heroes don't wear capes.

It helped yesterday, that it was Halloween and that I had previously volunteered to help at our neighborhood trunk or treat.  I didn't really want to... but couldn't back out.  So I kept busy and my thoughts toward serving others.  I didn't feel much like dressing up, but decided my "twister" costume would suffice.   Mr. Yardley called and said the beef was ready, too, and to meet him to come pick it up.  He was enroute from Richfield to St. George and Cedar City is on his way.  How nice is that?  Yep, some years I go up to Beaver to pick it up.  This was good.  But another tender mercy helping me think of other things, like sorting all the beef packages into piles for all the kiddos.  Thanks again, Brooke and Tim for your help in sorting.  And Camden... oh, he's a good helper!  As good as 2 year helpers can be!

It also helped that Wednesday morning, I had my little grandbabies over to play for grandma morning.  I thought about calling Brooke and telling her I wasn't up to it, but decided that it wouldn't be fair to Camden and to her.  Camden loves coming over and I love getting out the toys and books and playing.  Easton wouldn't have cared... he's only 4 months.  What a happy baby.  Families are a strength.  Thanks Brooke.

I do have to say that each trip we take up and back to SLC can be memorable in its own way.  We drove past three temples.  Erik wanted to drive past the Jordan River and the Oquirrh Mtn. Temples after we drove downtown when we left Huntsman.  Erik now say that he's driven past all but two of the temples in Utah within the past 10- 12 months.  Cool.  He took pictures and we had good conversations and most of all... Dennis was a great passenger.  He usually drives. It is hard for him to be a passenger because of the the accident 14 years ago that resulted in his 3 back surgeries.  He did good!  Erik always kisses his hand and slaps the top of the car when he goes through a yellow light.  Needless to say, he slapped the top more than 5 times that little jont through the Salt Lake Valley.  Dennis' patient level was pretty good!  I must say!

We also listened to "Finding Noel" by Richard Paul Evans.  Such a great book.  I have read it several times, but it was Erik and Dennis' first go round.  They enjoyed the story.  I love it.  I love Richard Paul Evans' books.  Next time we are in SLC, my vote is to take a picture of myself next to the Angel Statue in the Salt Lake Cemetary that has been erected after the popularity of "The Christmas Box".   It is one of many Angel Statues  Besides the Book of Mormon, this is my all time favorite book.  I love to read it or listen to the audio each Christmas.

I love the story and I love the story behind the story... and I love the stories of healing from lots of different walks of life and how this story has touched their lives.  I love that Richard Paul Evans, with all his wealth, is giving back to the communities with "Christmas Box Houses" that help abused or neglected children all across the nation and internationally, too.  There are over 120 Christmas Box Angel Statues erected internationally.  The first one erected is in SLC.  So that is my vote, next trip.

This coming Sunday is a Fast Day.   If you're reading this before Nov. 3rd, I invite you to join in to fast and pray with Erik and his physicians in mind.  And I invite you to continue to pray for this valiant young man and his battle with cancer.  I truly thank all our family, friends and neighbors for your prayers in the past.  We feel them.  Thank you for your love and support.
