Update on Erik
Erik is doing wonderful! Each week he is able to do a little more having a that much more energy. His throat still hurts, but can enjoy "food" again. Aaahhh, it is wonderful. He has reminded us all of the joy in simple things...like "tasting". He can eat most things, but is still looking forward to the days when he can eat cold things, like ice cream and also looking forward to eating spicier foods like a "master burro" from Alberto's and all you can eat wings from Winger's. He has checked off most foods on his hit list except those previous mentioned. He continues to have "dry mouth" and carries a water bottle constantly. One day for school, he used his Camel Back. It was good, but went back to using a water bottle. He is still on pain meds and is weaning down off the "hard and good" stuff. He's a tough guy and we're so proud of his great attitude.
The Cedar Track team has been absolutely wonderful in supporting him in his cancer issues. What a boost it has been for Erik to have such great people that truly care. Erik got to attend the state track meet with the team. He felt good enough to hang with them by riding on the bus up to Provo and spending a couple of days helping cheer on the Cedar boys to a 2nd place team victory....very close in points behind Hurricane. One of the hard things for Erik about having this cancer (along with the effects and pain from radiation) is that he missed out on his Sophomore track season. Watching his sister run and being able to reap the rewards of good hard practice has been tough. He's proud of her. He's proud of the team, but wished so bad that he could be right out there on the track competing.
So next year! He's feeling up to training again. It's been since December that he's really done anything physical, like lifting weights and running. He's ready to work into it slow. His neck is still sore, so it will take time. He's amazing though... also because he has kept up on his grades....awesome GPA, and again inducted into Honor Society. He also ran for Junior Class President and is excited to again be in Student Govt. as president of his Junior class. Again....we are so proud of him and all his days of just "making it through!" He's amazing!
