Good news and bad news about the biopsy from last week. The pathologists did find it to be cancerous. The same cancer he has had (mucoepidermoid carcinoma)... so at least its not a new outbreak of another kind.
They are thinking it is from the original... very minuscule because the PET scans didn't detect it the last couple of times. When they did the radiation treatments 20months ago... they blocked a small window to protect his larynx (voice). So it could be from that because it is mid line... right on his larynx.
Our next step is to have a PET scan done soon. If there isn't anything there... that means that last weeks biopsy got it all? Wouldn't that be nice!?! If not, they will NOT do radiation. They will take care of it surgically, because of his voice box. Dr. Pearson has already chatted with Dr. Gardner (St. Geo) and together will figure out how to help Erik. Even if it means referring him up to some great head and neck surgeons in SLC.
So here we go. Erik is in good spirits... bummed of course, but thankful it isn't as bad as the first time around. Thanks for all your prayers so far and we appreciate knowing that you'll continue to do so in Erik's behalf.
We are praying for you guys.
