You Go Girl!

Seniorita Class Presidente's Speech.....
I first wanted to start out with a joke. Most of you know what I’m talking about when I say this is a VENICE joke. What’s green, fuzzy, has 4 legs, and would kill you if it fell out of a tree? A pool table! And what does this have to do with graduation, a lot, use your imagination people.
Well High school has been quite a ride for us seniors. We have finally made it to this day. Can you believe it’s already been four years?  I decided that I would make a list of the top 11 memories of Cedar high since after all we are the class of 2011.
11. The first day of school freshman year- as we walked into the doors of the school our first year I remember how nervous we all were. We didn’t know what to expect. We were immature. We were scared of the big, bad seniors, and we didn’t know where our classes were.  We began that day thinking that graduation was so far away.
10. Academics-We came in with a shaky reputation academically. Teachers were a little nervous about our class, they’d heard things. But nonetheless we were able to turn those rumors around. We achieved a lot with the Prostart team going to Nationals, debate team that took 3rd at state, and our class produced 9 runners up and 3 winners for sterling scholar and we were able to receive over $600, 000 worth of scholarships collectively.
9. Turning 16  As  we began to grow and mature…we moved into our sophomore year. Many of us hit that milestone of 16 years old and began to date and drive(shudder). I’m glad most of the adults were smart enough to keep off the roads while we were starting to drive or maybe people should have kept off the sidewalks. Turning 16 brought on new freedom to most of us. We could drive to lunch and school, not to mention finally date.
8. The construction of Cedar High- even though the construction was noisy and inconvenient, we can all say though that it was worth it. The school looks great and we also have a great looking track to match it. Thank you construction workers for a job well done!
7.  Dances- Dances have always provided great memories for us. Homecoming, Sadies, Prom, etc.
6. Drama/music- Our Drama  department has done some fantastic plays like Joseph, The Wizard of Oz, the bald soprano, and Harvey.
Our music programs have been very impressive too. Jazz Band- 4 year state champs, symphonic band 3 years. The choirs and orchestra have always sounded great and done well at state! Also congrats to our prostart management team that made it to nationals and also the debate team that took 3rd at state.
5. Rivalry games- some of the most memorable games came against our cross town rivals, Canyon View. You always knew it would be a good game. One of the coolest memories was doing the whiteout where the whole student body was dressed in white. And who could forget playing for the region championship in football against Hurricane, and winning!

4. Homecoming week- It’s been one of the most school spirited weeks of the year. It was so cool to walk into the school and see the halls covered from top to bottom in red and gold. We got our turn to White Wash the “C” this year and the rest of the week was filled with the powder-puff game, spirit night- where Mrs. Sanders was tackled by two football players in the middle of a spirit game…sorry Mrs. Sanders, the football game, and homecoming dance.
3. Teachers- There is such a great administration a great and unique set of teachers at Cedar High. None of us will ever forget Herr Corry and his voice that can be heard down the hall or his sayings of “nailed you to the wall” and “that is just cookie do”, Pruitt’s jokes, or Mr. Steffenson’s Halloween show. There are just so many great teachers and we appreciate all of you. You make Cedar High what it is.
2. Sports: Our class has continued Cedars great tradition in sports. Every team showed great teamwork and all of our sports have had great showings at the State level. Let me just highlight a few state championships. Boys XC 2009, Mohey Tawa 2010, Cheer 2011, Cody Hone 2010 & 2011and Larsan Cottam 2011 in wrestling, and Girls Track 2011, which was about a week ago. I was there and it was an unforgettable experience. I’m sure for all of these teams; these are experiences that they will never forget.
Our class has always stood out in sports, but more important than our many successes were the friendships that we formed through our experiences together. No matter the sport, we learned the importance of teamwork. We showed that it’s not necessarily the size of the Redman, but the size of his heart.

1.  For each person, your #1 memory might be different from your classmate’s.  But whatever that may be, whether it be sports, academics, drama, music, a hobby, or a good time with friends, these differences make us unique. The different talents and personalities in our grade are what make up the class of 2011. I am so proud of how we have come together as a class and become one. I’ve heard many teachers talk about how cohesive this class has become and what a high achieving class we are. Every single one of you here today are one of those people. Our classmates and friends have provided us with the great times that we we’ll remember for a lifetime. As your Senior Class President I can look back and proudly say that I was a member of such a great class full of great people. Thank you all for an unforgettable 4 years!
